DRY LAKE (2007) - Nick Clements
Clements sees high desert dry lake racing as a metaphor for American myth and legend. Technical superiority, courage and the wilderness all come together in a gladiatorial contest of rubber, oil and steel. In this set of 20 A3 re-creations of an early 1960s dry lake race meeting Clements highlights todays obsession with the past by using contemporary clothing in the photographs. Clements photographic work re-creating the 1950s and 1960s traces the roots of today's street fashion and his writing theorises on the popularity of 'nostalgic' fashion.

SUPERNATURE (2003,
hard cover) - Nick Clements
Clements spent ten years tracing the diversity of the human body for his 2002
exhibition of the same name at the DeLuxe Gallery, Hoxton Square. This is neither
soft-porn dressed up as twee, black and white 'art' images nor is it a freak
show. From contortionists to bodies ravaged by life in Africa Clements brings
a new aesthetic to the nude.
